What Nutrition Strategies Elite Athletes Are Zeroing In On In 2025

Provisions for Peaking

Hi Reader,

There’s a fine line between being good—and being great.

The top athletes in the world don’t just train harder. They train smarter—by planning ahead, mastering the small details, and staying open to new strategies that give them the edge.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the American Sport and Performance Dietetians Association Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. It was an inspiring weekend surrounded by the best sports dietitians in the U.S. and around the world. We shared the latest science-backed strategies for helping athletes unlock their potential—in both sport and life.

Some of the top topics we explored included:

  • Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S)
  • Disordered eating and sustainable recovery
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Smart and safe supplementation
  • Biomarker testing for data-driven nutrition
  • Female athlete nutrition through all life stages

These are the exact areas I support my clients with every day.

If you’re feel you have plateaued with your progress, are unsure about what, when and how much to eat to fuel your body, or want to understand how your nutrition can take your performance to the next level - let's talk! I currently have 5 spots open for new clients, and I’d love to help you feel and perform at your best.

Schedule a time to chat with myself, Sports Dietitian Eleanor Baker, to ask questions, get answers and take the next step in your high performance journey.

Client Testimony

Progress is greater than perfection

"I didn't get the victory sadly, but I gained a ton of respect from everyone in attendance. I fought a much more experienced fighter in his home area and I ALMOST won, but I came up short on the judges scorecards.

I made my weight class easily and I felt strong. I dominated my opponent for the majority of the fight. I got knocked down though, and that's what cost me the victory. Anyway, thanks a million for your advice again, and helping me perform to my best! Every experience makes me better."

On Seeing Whats Possible...

I started competing in running again after an 8 year hiatus. Fueled by the encouragement of my peers, I dove back into the sport. My biggest goals have been to have fun with it and see what I am capable 🤠.

I've had some great starts in trail running at the 30 and 50K distances and recently ran my first road marathon finishing in 2:47 (which included a 2 min break to massage a flared toe that almost led to a DNF 😅).

Over the next month, I am training at altitude between Flagstaff and Tahoe as I prepare for the Broken Arrow 46K. During this time, I'm still actively working with clients on the road and practicing what I preach every day!

Join me on my journey :)

Have a rad day!

A time to honor the harvest

Provisions for Peaking by Eleanor Baker, MS, RD, CSSD Autumn Harvest from my friend's farm Howdy Reader, I walked through my friends large fruit and vegetable garden the other day and realized that in just a few weeks, so much had changed. Where once the passion fruit, fig and stone fruit trees were full, now pomegranates and apples have filled in where the others have gone dormant. The soft juicy flesh of summer bears way to the firmer hardier offerings of autumn. How has the focus and...

Provisions for Peaking by Eleanor Baker, MS, RD, CSSD A perfect reflection on the calm face of the Cottonwood Lake Number Two The first hints of cool air are filtering in, as the warm heat of the day creeps in a little slower. The grand efforts of summer are likely in the books and you are settling into a more predicable season with the coming of Fall. I hope this finds you feeling relaxed and excited to embrace a more structured focus. Now is a wonderful time to hone in on your sleep,...

Provisions for Peaking by Eleanor Baker, MS, RD, CSSD How fascinating it is to be in the aid station and see how athletes from all over the world fuel for a very verty 100K (~60 mile) trail running race.🍱 Even between athletes from the same country their approach to fueling the race can be exceptionally different. From showing up with a bag of what one thinks will be enough for the run to having their nutrition fully dialed down to the gram.📈 Much like training, fueling strategies can...
