Autumn: A Time to Honor the Harvest

Provisions for Peaking

Howdy Reader,

I walked through my friends large fruit and vegetable garden the other day and realized that in just a few weeks, so much had changed.

Where once the passion fruit, fig and stone fruit trees were full, now pomegranates and apples have filled in where the others have gone dormant. The soft juicy flesh of summer bears way to the firmer hardier offerings of autumn.

How has the focus and fruits of your health shape shifted in your own personal "garden"? Do you find that you are gravitating more towards quality time with friends and family versus the fast active pace of summer?

Taking time to prioritize more practices that nurture and replenish your body's stores before winter is important. With cold and flu season on the horizon, the best prevention you can do is tending to what you eat, allowing for good quality sleep, being mindful of the food and beverages you imbibe in this season and continuing to move, even if it is not as structured as it normally is.

This is a season to practice not only giving thanks to the bounties of the world that fill your belly and fuel your efforts but to be kind and remember to love on yourself and the people around you.

"I worked with Eleanor over the course of 6-7 months in 2025 as I was looking to develop sustainable weight loss & dietary habits that allowed for supplementing the performance needs associated with long-distance cycling competitive events as well as some running events.

I really appreciated Eleanor's in approach in really listing to, understanding my goals, athletic/performance objectives, likes/dislikes and developing a plan that allowed for healthy manageable weight loss while increasing performance/outputs. Also, appreciate her approach in consistently tweaking it throughout based on either what data was showing or unexpected things (such as a bike race crash).

Overall, I hit my weight target and slightly more and found the dietary (and some slight training) adjustments I made to be both sustainable and educational. Highly recommended."

Provisions for Peaking by Eleanor Baker, MS, RD, CSSD How fascinating it is to be in the aid station and see how athletes from all over the world fuel for a very verty 100K (~60 mile) trail running race.🍱 Even between athletes from the same country their approach to fueling the race can be exceptionally different. From showing up with a bag of what one thinks will be enough for the run to having their nutrition fully dialed down to the gram.📈 Much like training, fueling strategies can...

Provisions for Peaking by Eleanor Baker, MS, RD, CSSD I moved to from Florida a few years back with big dreamy aspirations, one of them to become a professional surfer.... while I may have been quickly put in my place in the California line up, what I did find were the kelp beds. Shortly after settling into the west coast, I was invited to go free dive the dark and mysterious forests there that lie beneath the oceans surface. Being from the tropics, the ocean in California is much different...
